Transmission Systems

Transmission Systems (formerly Getrag) is now a worldwide group of companies with its headquarters in Untergruppenbach, Germany.

Our more than 20 production and development sites around the world are spread across our three major business units: Getrag, Getrag Ford Transmissions (GFT) and Getrag Asia Pacific (GAP).

The parent company of all business units is GETRAG B.V. & Co. KG Our respective sites in Germany, Mexico, the USA, Italy and Slovakia are grouped under Getrag.

Getrag Ford Transmissions - Cologne

Getrag Ford Transmissions

GFT stands for the joint venture Getrag Ford Transmissions, established in 2001. This joint venture with the Ford Motor Company is headquartered in Cologne. Transmission Systems is responsible for the operational management. employees at six European sites produce manual transmissions and dual clutch transmissions.

In 2007, Getrag transferred GFT’s successful business model to the Asian market. Since then, Getrag and GFT have held two thirds of GETRAG (Jiangxi) Transmission Co. Ltd., which has its headquarters in Nanchang, China. One third is held by the Jiangling Motors Company Group, which brought three production sites to the joint venture. 6.600 employees produce 1.000.000 transmissions a year for the Asian market.

Getrag Asia Pacific - Shanghai

Getrag Asia Pacific

In autumn 2012, Getrag entered into another partnership in Asia: together with the second largest Chinese automobile manufacturer, the Dongfeng Motor Group Co. Ltd., they launched the Dongfeng GETRAG Transmission Co. Ltd. joint venture.

Both the Asian joint ventures are grouped under Getrag Asia Pacific (GAP). The GAP headquarters are in Shanghai.

Transmission Systems in numbers

For several years, Transmission Systems has been concentrating on its core business of transmissions for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. Almost all the major automobile manufacturers worldwide figure amongst our customers. Our technological expertise will allow us to pursue an ambitious growth path in the coming years. With its broad portfolio, Magna can already offer the right products for all transmission solutions. This will be our contribution to individual mobility for countless people in the future – in mature markets, but also in rapidly developing countries. However, growth for us is not an end in itself. We care about quality and only invest projects in the right markets with the right partners.
