Specializing on Global Requirements
New global megatrends change our future way of life and the traditional concepts of mobility globally. Moreover, the environmental awareness and requirements to reduce CO2 emissions are growing. One way to meet these needs is full powertrain electrification.
However, the performance of electrical motors is very much different from combustion engines, in terms of torque and power, as well as their ability to cover a larger motor speed range.
It is known that a certain minimum number of gears is required for optimal drivability. For some e-drives, one gear can be enough, but in many cases, more gears may be useful with regard to improved vehicle climbing or high-speed capability. Moreover, it is not feasible to use high-performance e-machines in every vehicle segment, often small and affordable high-speed motors are favored. This increases the need to flexibly adapt motor speed for optimal wheel traction.
There is a portfolio of several 1-speed and 2-speed drives in our product portfolio, which are fully developed, tested and manufactured "in-house”. All products are developed according to global requirements under highest quality standards.
The applications of these products can cover a wide range of segments, from city cars or sport cars up to light commercial vehicles – and they can be used on front and/or rear axle.

GETRAG offers these transmission solutions for vehicles with front-wheel, rear-wheel and all-wheel drive.
The solutions developed by our engineers feature high-speed e-machines. This helps us achieve weight and efficiency advantages compared to slower running e-machines, especially when additional gears are used. The advantages are better performance and improved vehicle range – therefore batteries can be smaller.
We work closely with MAGNA when applying the transmission to the respective electric motor and the power electronics.
